Corny Keg Buying Guide

What is a corny keg?
A corny keg (short for Cornelius keg) is a stainless steel pressure vessel originally used by the soda industry. Homebrewers adopted them because they're easier to fill, clean, and maintain than commercial Sanke kegs. They come in two styles: ball lock (Pepsi style) and pin lock (Coke style). Most homebrewers choose ball lock for easier disconnects and wider parts availability.

Should I buy new or refurbished?
Refurbished corny kegs are the best value for most homebrewers. We pressure test every used keg, deep clean the interior, and replace all O-rings before shipping. New kegs from AEB and other manufacturers are a great choice if you want zero cosmetic wear or need a specific size that's hard to find used.

What size corny keg do I need?
The standard homebrewing batch is 5 gallons, so 5-gallon ball lock kegs are the most popular. Smaller kegs (1.5, 2.5, and 3 gallon) are great for small-batch brewing, nitro cold brew coffee, or fitting multiple kegs in a single kegerator.

What parts do I need to get started?
A corny keg alone won't pour beer. You'll need a CO2 tank, a regulator, gas and liquid disconnects, beer line, and a faucet or picnic tap. Check out our kegging kits for complete setups that include everything you need.
